Former Delta State governor, James Ibori, who was released from UK prison Wednesday, has landed in Delta State, Nigeria. Ibori, who was convicted of money laundering in 2012 by a UK court, was hosted to a welcome party by close family and friends.
The event which was anchored by former political adviser to Ibori and now senator representing Delta north, Peter Nwaoboshi. saw Ibori being adored as the only man who sits in prison and pulls political strings.
Nwaoboshi who said he flew into Nigeria just to welcome Ibori praised Ibori for installing him as senator while he was in prison. Nwaoboshi also openly stated that Ibori, while in prison, solely chose two governors for Delta State; apparently former Gov Uduaghan and Gov Okowa.
Nwaoboshi in his speech also insinuated that Senator Bukola Saraki enjoys the support of Ibori and that the house of rep’s speaker was Ibori’s choice. He was also praised for making his daughter, Erhiatake Ibori, a member of the Delta State House of Representatives.
Nwaoboshi said that that Ibori’s going to jail is preparation for greater responsibility, citing the cases of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Nelson Mandela.
Ibori, who was visibly too excited to say much, said that one day he wants to be the father of all; the good the bad and the ugly.
Many Nigerians have reacted to the celebration of Ibori’s return, condemning the action as insensitive.
