The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has assured Nigerians of fuel availability during the yuletide. The corporations says it has taken steps to solve the perennial issue of fuel shortage that affects the country during the yuletide season.
This statement was made on Monday via its GMD, Dr Maikanti Baru, in Abuja,
As part of efforts by the body to ease Nigerians’ fuel burden, Baru said the NNPC has exceeded the demand of marketers.
The GMD further explained that the NNPC has imported over 38.7million litres of ATK which represent about 26-day national sufficiency.
Specifically, he continued, on December 14, 2016, the Corporation completed the discharge of 8,800MT. This represent about 10.6 million litres to major terminals in the country.
“In addition, as at this morning (yesterday), the NNPC has discharged 23,500MT which represents about 28.2million litres to the major oil terminals.
“In order to sustain the tempo, the corporation has also secured the supply of additional 30,000MT vessel of ATK. This represents about 36 million litres expected to berth Nigerian shores before the end of the year.”
Forty Days Fuel Provision Guaranteed
Going on, he said the NNPC has supplied forty days’ worth of PMS to major terminals in the country.
He also promised Nigerians sustained efforts by the NNPC to ensure year-round availability of petroleum products.
These come on the heels of challenges faced in making ATK available nationwide.
Shortage of the product has led to reported cases of flight delays and cancellations across the nation’s airports.
