The Federal Road Safety Corps plans to spend N6 billion on recruitment next year, Corps Marshal Boboye Oyeyemi has said.
Oyeyemi made this known while receiving the Senate Committee on Federal Character in Abuja.
He did disclose at the meeting that the agency’s budget for the next fiscal year was N31 billion.
The corps marshal noted that N953.7 million would go into overheads. He also revealed that capital projects and personnel cost are tied to N2.34 billion and N29.9 billion.
FRSC boss reviews 2016 budget
On capital projects, the corps marshal noted that of the voted N2.34 billion, only N912.9 million got to the agency. According to him, this puts performance at 38.9 per cent.
He added that N1.46 billion was generated and remitted to the Consolidated Revenue Fund Account (CRF) as at September 30.
Senators not impressed
But the committee vice-chairman Suleiman Hunkuyi ((APC, Kaduna North) faulted the FRSC. He questioned why he failed to give details of revenue generated from issuance of vehicle plate numbers. Hunkuyi noted that such an amount could have boosted its revenue.
On his part, Duro Faseyi (PDP, Ekiti) described the total budget performance of the agency as “nonsense.”
He said he could not commend the agency as it has performed below expectations.
He said: “Let us tell ourselves the truth. I have nothing encouraging to say about this. How can one commend the agency when releases are less than 40 per cent. This will be the first time we are seeing this. It is nonsense. I have nothing else to say.”
