The Niger Delta Avengers has said the resumed attacks on oil facilities is because the Federal Government failed to honour its terms. It claimed that the Federal Government should be blamed for the fresh attacks.
The group had relayed this to leaders of the Niger Delta region under the Pan Niger Delta Forum. It said both the Federal Government and the Nigerian military are responsible for the fresh attacks.
In a statement by the spokesman, Mudoch Agbinibo, it attacked some oil facilities in the region because the Federal Government had allegedly refused to honour the ceasefire terms they both entered.
“We see this as a deliberate move by the military establishment to undermine any effort of dialogue and negotiations.”
They added that the government was using military force to undermine the peace process. This is through ‘unnecessarily’ harassment of communities and arresting innocent people in the region.
Six Decade Old Struggle
NDA added that the struggle in the region did not just start for the sake of bearing arms against the Nigerian government. According to them, over six decades of economic and constitutional colonialism against the region led to the struggle.
“We ask for understanding on the side of the PANDEF and the general public. The High command of the NDA is only reacting to government’s deliberate attempts to undermine the dialogue process and negotiations.”
The Pan Niger Delta Forum led by Chief Edward Clark had met with President Buhari. The leaders tabled a 16-point demand to the Federal government in a bid to end the ongoing crisis.
