Eagles’ starlets Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi celebrate as Nigeria beat Zambia 2-1 in Ndola

Put aside the latest Fifa ranking and take the Desert Warriors to the sword.

That is a charge from the Chairman of Enugu State Football Association Chidi Okenwa to the Super Eagles as they prepare for Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Algeria in Uyo.

Nigeria are leaders of Group B with three points. Cameroon and Algeria are second and third on a point each, while Zambia sit at the bottom, pointless.

The Eagles are seeking to consolidate on their 2-1 win at Zambia, while the North Africans are aiming to get back on track after sharing the spoils against Cameroon at home.

Don’t joke with the Algerians

And the Enugu FA boss believes that the three-time African champions must take the Algerians seriously as they (Algeria) also have a lot at stake.

“Forget about the present ranking and face the match squarely to ensure victory, so as to brighten Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Some Nigerians are sceptical about the chances of Gernot Rohr’s men in the game. They fear that the Algerians have quality players that can hurt the Eagles in Uyo if they are not careful. But Okenwa thinks otherwise. He reckons that Nigeria equally boast quality players that the Algerians should be wary of.

“Although Algeria has much arsenals at their disposal, we have the fire power to beat them on Saturday and ultimately qualify for the world cup.

“I have no doubt in the ability of the present Eagles. And for them to beat Zambia all the way in Ndola means that they can get good result any where, any time.

“We need to consolidate our 2-1 victory in Zambia with another victory against the Algerians because it may be the decider in the group,’’ he said.

The football administrator also expressed confidence in the technical crew led by Rohr. He believes the German desires to be at the World Cup with the Eagles.

“I know that the technical crew led by Gernot Rohr will want to be at the world cup and to enrich their credentials,’’ he added.
