Premier League sides Liverpool and Arsenal Tuesday booked their places in the last eight of the English League Cup.
The Reds endured a late scare to overcome Tottenham at Anfield, while Arsenal eased their way past Reading at emirates stadium.
Arsenal 2-0 Reading
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was the star of the night for the Gunners as his goals ensured the elimination of Reading and a ticket to the fifth round for the North Londoners.
Liverpool 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur
Daniel Sturridge scored both goals as Liverpool saw off Tottenham to book a place in the fifth round of the EFL Cup.
The England forward has now scored eight goals in six appearances for the Reds in the competition.
Bristol City 1-2 Hull City
Hull’s poor Premier League form did not extend to the EFL Cup following a 2-1 victory at Bristol City.
The Tigers had lost all four league games since winning at Stoke in the previous round of the competition.
But goals either side of half-time from centre-backs Harry Maguire and Michael Dawson earned the tigers a place in the quarter-finals for the second staright season.
Leeds United 3-2 Norwich City
Leads advanced to the next round after beating hard-fighting Norwich City 3-2 on the back of a 2-2 draw after extra time.
Norwich had twice taken the lead in the match, Alex Pritchard (14) and Nelson Oliveira (99) netting. But Leeds battled back to level both times thanks to Marcus Antonsson (43) and substitute Chris Wood (109).
Newcastle United 6-0 Preston North End
Newcastle breezed through Preston North End 6-0 to march into the Cup quarter-finals.
