Ahead of the Ondo Guber polls, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has picked Modupe Akindele-Martins as running mate to Dr. Olu Agunloye.
The party said it was in fulfillment of the country’s policy on 35 per cent affirmative action.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Alfa Mohammed said the party adopted it as a winning strategy. He explained that many variables were considered before picking her.
Mohammed added that only the SDP had yielded to the clamour by the to have a gender-sensitive ticket.
According to him, the role of women in the society cannot be over-emphasised, noting that apart from being good advisers and experts in children upbringing, they are also the highest voters in society.
The party’s state Secretary, Mr. Oladele Ogunbameru, added that other parameters used in her choice as running mate were religion and geography.
He said the choice of Akindele-Martins has aroused people’s interest in Okitipupa Local Council where she was born, as well as Odigbo, where she runs a thriving business.
“For the first time in 40 years history of Ondo, people will be having the privilege of a complete family lifestyle in politics and governance.”
Ogunbameru explained that Agunloye, if elected would govern the state as father with a motherly support.
He said this uncommon match would translate into responsible and responsive good governance as obtainable in other states and political climes where there is such gender equality.
