President Buhari will begin an official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany from today 13th October to Sunday 16th.
He will meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel on issues of shared interests between Nigeria and Germany. This includes further cooperation on security, the humanitarian situation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and rehabilitation of the North-East. Also, trade and economic relations between both countries will be discussed in Berlin.
The President will be accompanied by Governors of Borno and Imo States as well as representatives of the National Assembly in the meeting with Federal President Joachim Gauck.
While in Berlin, President Buhari will also participate in a Business Forum in Berlin. He will meet with leading German companies already active in Nigeria and other prospective investors.
The President is also expected to meet with representatives of the Nigerian community in Germany before returning home.
Nigeria, Germany Strenghtens Bilateral Relations
Nigeria and Germany are maintaining close ties in bilateral cooperation including the fight against terrorism, economic relations, rebuilding of the North east, and support for IDPs, vocational training, energy partnership and cultural relations.
President Buhari attended the G7 summit in Germany last year his first outside Africa after his inauguration.
German President Joachim Gauck also made an official visit to Nigeria in February this year. He was accompanied by a delegation of German business community to hold discussions on trade and investments with representatives of government and the private sector in Abuja and Lagos.
