The Nigerian police have confirmed the death of one of their inspectors, Mr. Ogbe, who they say was shot by unknown gunmen in Imo State on Sunday.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer in Imo state, Andrew Enwerem, the late inspector was attached to a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in the state, Chief Marcellinus Nlemigbo.
The incident occurred at Umudagu, Mberi, in Mbaitoli Local Government Area.
Mr Ogbe, was at Chief Nlemigbo’s compound at Umudagu when the gunmen arrived at about 8pm.
Sources close to Chief Nlemigbo told newsmen in Owerri that there was exchange of gunfire between the hoodlums and late Insp. Ogbe during which he was killed.
The source added that Chief Nlemigbo, who had just returned from the October Lecture of the Grail Movement, Nigeria, in Owerri, was inside his house when the exchange of gunfire took place.
Chief Nlemigbo, who is also a former Chairman of PDP in the state, told newsmen that the police were investigating the incident. This was confirmed by the police PPRO.
“The police are using all machinery at their disposal to unravel those behind the incident,” he said.
