The ex-governor of Delta state, James Onanefe Ibori, has been freed by a UK court today Wednesday.

A UK court ruled that he should be released at midday before having to go through his confiscation trial. His media aide, Tony Elumelor, confirmed his release to Vanguard.

The confiscation trial is to determine if Ibori’s assets should be seized after serving his jail term.

However, in a chat with Sahara Reporters, Elumelor debunked claims by an ex-commissioner of Delta State under Ibori’s administration, Ighoyota Amori, who said Ibori will be back in Nigeria before Christmas.

Amori’s assurances of Ibori’s pending return to his home town in Oghara has sent the former governor’s faithfuls into wild celebrations. Plans are also reported to have been made to host the ex-governor to a Christmas party in Delta State.

In 2012, Ibori was convicted by a UK court and was sentenced to serve a 13-year jail time in the UK for being guilty of charges of money laundering.
