Barely a day after he was sworn in as Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Kennedy Njoku has resigned.

He said his resignation was on personal grounds.

And following Njoku’s resignation,  a motion was raised by the majority leader of the Assembly on the need to immediately fill the position.

Honourable Chikwendu Kalu, representing Isialangwa South Constituency, was then nominated and has been sworn in as the new speaker, Concise News can confirm.

A recall

Kennedy Njoku was elected and sworn in as Speaker on Thursday, following the impeachment of former Speaker Martins Azubuike.

The House said Azubuike was fired on the grounds of financial recklessness.
